Master Woodward GAP, MicroNet Plus hardware, Service tools & field procedures for turbine control systems
What you'll learn
Requirements
Description
Woodward MicroNet Plus is the control platform behind thousands of steam turbines, aeroderivative gas turbines, and compressor trains worldwide - yet practical, field-oriented training on it is almost impossible to find. This course fills that gap.
Built from real field service experience, the course takes you from control fundamentals to working confidently with a live MicroNet Plus system. You will learn how governors and control loops work, how the MicroNet Plus chassis, CPU, and I/O modules are structured, and how the control communicates over Modbus TCP and CAN J1939.
The core of the course is hands-on software instruction. You will navigate real GAP 3.0 applications - reading block logic, tracing signal flow, and understanding tunables - across three dedicated GAP presentations plus a Tips & Tricks session and an iFix HMI walkthrough on an LM6000 gas turbine application. You will then work through every major Woodward service tool: AppManager, Control Assistant, SOS Servlink, Monitor GAP, ServLink with Watch Window, and DVP.
The final section covers the procedures you actually perform in the field: collecting data logs, trending live values, capturing high-speed DataLogs, sending and receiving tunables on a running control, and retrieving datalogs for troubleshooting.
The course is taught by a Principal Engineer with decades of hands-on experience commissioning and servicing Woodward controls on steam and gas turbines. No GAP programming experience is required - everything is explained from the ground up using real applications and real hardware.
By the end, you will be able to connect to a MicroNet Plus control, read its application logic, and carry out routine service tasks with confidence.
